Randomized Control Trial (RCT)- A type of research study where a population is randomly split into an experimental group and control group. The experimental group receives the intervention (or workshop) while the control group receives another intervention or nothing. Results of both groups are then compared to determine whether the difference in outcomes is statistically significant between groups.

Intervention- A specific program or workshop offered during research

Statistical Significance- When something is said to have “statistical significance”, that means that the outcomes occurred beyond chance and likely because of the intervention that was received.

Essential/Key Elements- The “key components” that make the program what it is.

Fidelity- The degree to which an intervention is delivered as intended or as it was originally tested.

Behavior Change Theories– Several theories have been developed to explain why behavior occurs, what facilitates or hinders the behavior, and how a program designer should develop an intervention to facilitate behavior change.

Cultural Competence- the integration and transformation of knowledge about individuals and groups of people into specific standards, policies, practices, and attitudes used in appropriate cultural settings to increase the quality of services; thereby producing better outcomes.
